The meeting focused on visible and measurable contribution models and evaluated cooperation frameworks.
The meeting was held at the Senate Room of the Main Campus, chaired by Rector’s Advisor and Group Coordinator Instructor Serdar Karagöz and moderated by Social Contribution Coordinator Asst. Prof. Nebiye Yaşar. Academics affiliated with the Social Contribution Coordination Office also participated in the meeting.
Collaboration models were evaluated
The meeting focused on the indicators of social contribution set by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) and the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK), evaluating the university’s current structure, areas of activity, and cooperation models.
Comprehensive presentations were delivered on contribution models that include volunteerism, social responsibility, sustainable development, and civil society partnerships, in alignment with Üsküdar University’s vision of “Science for Humanity and Society.”
Visible and measurable contribution models discussed
The meeting featured thorough evaluations around key topics such as performance indicators for social contribution expected from higher education institutions by CoHE and YÖKAK, institutional monitoring systems, volunteerism, and civil society partnerships. In line with the university’s mission of “The Science of Goodness” and a focus on “Human Values,” visible and measurable contribution models that enhance interaction with society and support sustainable development goals were discussed.
Aiming to build a systematic contribution model
Rector’s Advisor and Group Coordinator Instructor Serdar Karagöz emphasized that social contribution is not merely an outward-facing activity but also a responsibility that reflects the conscience and spirit of the university. He stated that the university should proceed decisively with the “co-transforming university” model in cooperation with all faculties, units, and partner institutions.
Asst. Prof. Nebiye Yaşar: “Social contribution is a reflection of our university’s spirit”
Üsküdar University’s Social Contribution Coordinator Asst. Prof. Nebiye Yaşar stated:
“We will manage internal coordination and external stakeholder relations in areas such as volunteerism, civil society collaboration, presence in the field during times of disaster, and developing projects with youth, all while adhering to academic ethics. In line with YÖKAK’s expectations, measurability, student and academic participation, and sustainable partnerships will be our core pillars. This coordination office was established to amplify collective goodness and support the university’s role in social development. Social contribution is a stance that reflects the very soul of our university.”
Strategic priorities were addressed
The meeting emphasized that social contribution must evolve into a measurable, traceable, and sustainable institutional structure. Strategic topics were discussed, including supporting projects that increase volunteer-based participation by students and academic staff, ensuring the university plays an active role during disasters and crises, and strengthening scientific and social activities for the public good.
Meetings will continue regularly
At the end of the meeting, a decision was made to conduct the coordination process transparently, based on data and with participatory involvement, with the aim of creating a “university structure that produces together, leaves a mark together, and transforms together.” Based on decisions taken at the meeting, it was agreed that coordination board meetings will continue at regular intervals and that the mission of producing society-oriented scientific impact on an institutional scale will be further strengthened.
