Prof. Ebulfez Süleymanlı: “Cross-cultural research is the key to a shared future in the Turkic world”

Prof. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, faculty member of the Department of Sociology at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “Psychology in Central Asia: Development Paths and Perspectives” held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Süleymanlı delivered a comprehensive presentation titled “Methodological and Theoretical Aspects of Cross-Cultural Research in Turkic States.” He emphasized the great importance of cross-cultural research, describing it as a bridge that connects the past to the future and underscoring its role as the key to a shared future in the Turkic world.

The event at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was attended by psychologists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Türkiye, and other countries, as well as parliament members, representatives of public institutions, media professionals, and members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“Cross-cultural research holds great importance”

In his presentation titled “Methodological and Theoretical Aspects of Cross-Cultural Research in Turkic States,” Prof. Ebulfez Süleymanlı of Üsküdar University highlighted that today’s world is shaped by globalization, intercultural interaction, and cultural interdependence. In this context, cross-cultural research plays a vital role in analyzing societal identity formation, value systems, and behavior patterns. Süleymanlı stated, “Cross-cultural research is the key to a shared future in the Turkic world.”

“Cultural diversity meets common roots”

Emphasizing the significance of such studies particularly in the context of the Turkic world, Süleymanlı said: “Our shared historical and cultural roots, when combined with different political systems and educational models, make cross-cultural research a strategic academic field in the Turkic world. Cultural diversity meets common roots...”

Süleymanlı highlighted cultural bias and methodological challenges

Süleymanlı also drew attention to the main challenges faced in cross-cultural research. Language barriers, cultural biases, sampling issues, conceptual differences, and ethical violations are among the most significant difficulties in this field. He emphasized the need to adapt research tools with cultural sensitivity, involve local experts in the research process, and adhere to international ethical standards to overcome these methodological challenges.

Süleymanlı underlined that cross-cultural research is not only an academic pursuit but also of strategic importance in building trust among peoples and laying the foundations of a shared future in education and science. He concluded: “In the Turkic world, cross-cultural research is a bridge that connects the past and the future. We must preserve our common heritage, draw strength from our differences, and build a shared future on a scientific basis.”

The main objectives of the conference were:

Sharing scientific knowledge and practical experiences in the field of psychology,

Discussing current issues related to psychology education and science in Central Asian countries,

Strengthening academic and professional collaborations,

Providing a rich environment for comprehensive and in-depth discussions on the development and future of psychological services.
