A Significant Appointment for Prof. Sevda Asqarova!

Prof. Sevda Asqarova, Head of the Department of Occupational Therapy at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the Music Therapy Application and Research Center (MÜTEM), has been appointed to an important role by the General Directorate of Health Services of the Ministry of Health within the scope of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices (GETAT) Commissions. Asqarova will contribute to the broader and more systematic integration of music therapy into healthcare services through her role as a member of the "Music Therapy Practice" Commission.

Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices aim to evaluate supportive treatment methods within a scientific framework and integrate them into the healthcare system alongside modern medicine.

The “Music Therapy Practice” Commission, established within this context, assumes critical responsibilities such as setting standards for the safe and effective use of music-based treatment methods, defining practitioner competencies, and promoting scientific research in the field.

Music therapy is addressed on both clinical and societal levels

Through the projects she leads at MÜTEM, Prof. Asqarova has already contributed significantly to the effective use of music therapy in both clinical and societal contexts. Her work within the commission is expected to further support the systematic and widespread application of music therapy in healthcare services.

This appointment is also considered a major step forward in framing music therapy within a scientific context and integrating it into national health policies in Türkiye.
